This is a photo I took of grapes on an arbor at a hotel in St. Marc, Haiti. They gave us a bag of them and we made some wonderful juice with them! This photo will be available in the photo prints on our website. Check out all other photos for sale on our website.

These flowers are from a mahogany tree. They fall as pods and some open like these ones. I later sprayed these white after the inside came out, to tie on a Christmas tree. Photos of that coming later....
As we were driving along and viewing the scenery outside of St. Marc we passed by beautiful rice fields. As we drove into town there were people drying their brown rice out on sheets or tarps alongside the road. Yes, rice is brown when harvested. :) Then they raked over it until it was dry enough to sell. Alot of manual labor, and irrigation. This part of the country gets more rainfall which produces the beautiful rice crops.
One thing I love about being in Haiti is seeing all the tropical flowers here. I was always drawn to them as I picked out my flowers from the wholesale coolers in Ohio. But there is nothing like seeing them in their natural habitat. The foliage is unbelievable too. Palm trees and banana trees everywhere and in certain parts everything is lush and green. Its like living in a aboretum!
I love this little tin leaf. Its perfect to hold hairclips, jewelry, or even soap-be creative! It measures 6.5 inches long and 3.5 wide from point to point. To order, view on the "Boutique Finds"page.
I just love little baby chicks! They are so cute when they are little, but ohh so ugly when they get older. But I love the results you get from the old ugly chicks. Fresh eggs. Here at "Double Harvest" in Haiti, is a large production of a mission giving opportunities to Haitians. They have a lg. nursery, agriculture, fish hatchery and an egg production. We like to come here to see the scenery and come home with fresh eggs. I guess it seems like a little piece of home.
Do you have your own chicks? or are you like me and like the fresh eggs but don't like raising chicks?? It is interesting to me to see how the people here in Haiti work so hard, just to survive. We work so we can live today and in the future, they live day by day. We sometimes have extra money for nice houses, cars, vacations ect....Most of them would never have that privilege. Here is a look at some and how they are working to do what they can. Selling at the local market is something that many do. Markets are a common thing as they buy goods for each day. The vegetables and fruits are beautiful, some do well at their display! I like this picture because it looks quaint. This man is making jewelry, watches ect...working with his hands the best he knows.
Eph_4:28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. "In the beginning God created....." Colors! I just love this picture I took in Petionville (south of Port au Prince), I loved the setting. The top with the lush green, the bottom is the top of a building of some kind of a tea room? with the Roman numeral clock, the upper center right with the unpainted houses and all the other beautiful colors of houses all stacked on each other up the hill. This is not a sight you see much in Port au Prince, but more of trash and unpainted houses in an unorderly fashion.
But the more I looked at this it made me think about how God created the different colors of people. Something I read today triggered some thoughts...If God wanted all white people he would've created them all white, or black, blue ect... But I wonder if order was just too plain and boring for God; so he mixed it up? He wanted the best of all worlds, so he blessed us when He created all the variety of colors to choose from the rainbow! Somehow I think of it more in Haiti, when some days the color of my skin stands out and yet how I love how He created us all uniquely different. But for one main purpose; to serve, honor and glorify Him. This picture is our latest updated in the photo gallery for sale...check out our price list and photo gallery. Wendy LavyThis blog was inspired by the creativity of the Haitian people. The ideas of how they "Go Green" is because they have to save and make do with what they have. Unlike the American people with too much, that they don't think about waste. Their gardening and produce is grown mostly without pesticides, because they don't have it or they cannot afford it. In 2012-2014 our family had the opportunity to serve as missionaries in Haiti. We learned a lot and made many new friends there. Although we are now back to our home in America, we left a piece of our hearts there and try to visit and help where we can. Archives
